Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ringstead
Northamptonshire Historic Churches Trust’s purpose is to make grants to churches and chapels in Northamptonshire for their preservation, repair and improvement. It is nondenominational, and notwithstanding its title, churches need not be historic to benefit. In 2018 the Trust made grants of a total value of £75,500. Approximately half of the funds used to make these grants was raised by the Annual Ride+Stride.
The next Sponsored Ride+Stride takes place on Saturday 14th September 2019. This annual event is an excellent way of raising funds for your own church as well as the Trust, as 50% of the money that you raise is returned to the church of your choice. In addition, there is the opportunity to visit and admire some of the most wonderful buildings in the county.
Northamptonshire can boast splendid examples of Saxon, Medieval, Georgian, Victorian and Modern church architecture. And it is not just the buildings, but also their furnishings – pews, choir stalls and pulpits – their stained glass, wall paintings and carved stonework. These churches are important, not just as places of worship, but also as the focus for the local community, both at times of celebration and commemoration.
Visit churches and chapels
People of any age can take part as you can choose your own route, according to how many churches you wish to visit on the day. Most of the churches in the County will be open from 10.00 – 18.00, although there some that have to close earlier. And if riding or striding is not your thing why not use the same sponsor forms to have a sponsored “Pray and Stay” while welcoming the riders and striders to your church?
Please take part in Ride+Stride so that the Trust can continue to make grants to churches in Northamptonshire and thereby help preserve the rich heritage we hold in trust for future generations.
